1996 Annual Performance Report
Beef Cattle
The annual report on the performance recording of beef cattle (further PRBC) for the year 1996 is the sixth continuation of the regular recording of performance in beef cattle herds of the Czech Republic. The Association of Beef Cattle Breeders publishes every year the results of PRBC from the year 1991.  How as the number of animals in the PRBC increases so the content of these published annual report changes, too. The content of the annual reports has got the final appearance during the last two-three years. We expect more detailed information on beef breeds for breeders either in the ,,Report of the Breeders Association for Beef Cattle" or in the information of breeders clubs during the next years.

You will find the results of the PRBC which are classified according to the breeds with the exception of the two introductory pages. Each breed in the tables has its special abbreviation which is in coincidence with the abbreviations mentioned in the herdbook:

Aberdeen Angus AA Scottish Highland HI
Blonde d'Aquitaine BA Charolais CH
Blanc Bleu Belge BM Limousin LI
Galloway GA Beef Simmental MS
Gasconne GS Piedmontese PI
Hereford HE Salers SA

Tables and some graphs have a unified rank of numbers within the reports. Breeds with small numbers of animals do not comprehend all tables (graphs).

Numbers of cows and heifers at 30.09.1996, number of herds (only those herds with performance recording in 1996). The distribution into sections according to the breeds corresponds to the chapters of the herdbook:
MI - M3 corresponds with the gene proportion (blood proportion)ofthe beef breed 88 - 100%

M4 - M5 corresponds with the gene proportion (blood proportion) of the beef breed 50 - 88%

The term „rest" correspond to suckling cows without genes of beef cattle, which are used as cows within crossbreeding or recipient-cows of embryos. Under the term „calves" we understand born calves from dairy sires, resp. born calves of dual purpose breeds in herds with performance recording.

The calves in the table are not divided into the classes of beef breed proportions. The detailed separation will be in the individual breeds. The table is simultaneously divided into classes according to the number of born calves (separately bulls and heifers), mortality to 48 hours after birth, dead born calves or abortion. The last column includes number of born calves from embryo transfer. These calves are also in the preceding columns.

Development of numbers of cows for the particular breeds (including crossbreds) is mentioned from 1991 to 1996. It reflects the development of beef breeds in our country with the exception of the herefords which were kept in the Czech Republic before 1989. From the table results the interest of breeders for particular breeds.
