Registry Requirements
 
Registration Rules and Procedures 

The consequences of the proposed procedures will be that: all currently registered full blood animals and White Galloway equivalents will be registrable but not necessarily in the same category as now  

    ¥  no animal with a Belted Galloway or White Galloway ancestor will be able to be registered in the solid coloured section 
    ¥  there will be a basis for merging pedigree, quality assurance and performance information, for comparing stud and commercial cattle and for a traceability system for stock. 
Stud Register 
1.  The Association shall maintain a Stud Register with Sections for: 
    (1) Fullblood solid colour Galloways (Section 1) 
    (2) Fullblood Belted Galloways (Section 2 and Appendix) 
    (3) White Galloways (Section 3). 
2.  A solid colour Galloway may be black (which may include a brownish tinge), dun. silver or red, with white permitted only on the underline behind the navel. 

3.  (1) A Belted Galloway must have a complete white belt with no black on it and no white on its legs, and may be black, dun, silver or red for registration in Section 2. 
(2) A Belted Galloway with an incomplete belt or some white on its body may be registered in an Appendix to Section 2. 

4.  A White Galloway must be white with black, dun, grey or red pigment on the nose, ears, hooves and eyes, and may have pigment on the legs, udder and poll, and a moderate degree of freckling. 

Eligibility  
5.  At the date of coming into operation of these Procedures cattle that meet the requirements of paragraphs 1, 2, 3 and 4 and are registered with any other recognised Galloway breed organisation are eligible for registration in the Section of the register that relates to their pedigree and colour.  

6.  Other cattle are eligible for registration in a Section if they: 

    (1) conform with the colour pattern applicable to that Section of the Stud Register,  
    (2) are the progeny of cattle in that Section,  
    (3) are the progeny of one parent in that Section and a parent that has an official extended pedigree of at least five generations and is registered by another recognised Galloway organisation, 
    (4) are the progeny of one parent in that Section and a parent that has been registered under paragraph 9 of these Procedures 
    (5) are free of horns or scurs and deleterious genetic abnormalities, 
    (6) are not proven carriers of a deleterious genetic abnormality, and 
    (7) do not have progeny that do not conform to registration requirements where the Registrar is satisfied that the other parent or parents do.
7.  In the case of Belted Galloways, cattle coloured as described in paragraph 2 with one parent from Section 1 or 3 and the other from Section 2 or its Appendix are eligible for registration in Section 2 or its Appendix respectively 

8.  In the case of White Galloways: 

    (1) cattle descended from foundation White Galloways registered with another recognised Galloway organisation are eligible for registration provided they are eligible in all other respects, 
    (2) cattle coloured as required in paragraph 4, with one parent from Section 1 or 2 and one from Section 3 are eligible for registration as White Galloways, and  
    (3) cattle that are solid coloured black, dun, silver or red or are belted with one parent from Section 1 or 2 and one from Section 3, or both from Section 3, are eligible for registration in Section 3 as non-conforming White Galloways.
9.   (1) Notwithstanding paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 cattle are eligible for registration in the Section of the register consistent with their pedigree and colour if: 
      (a) the registrar is satisfied that they have Galloway ancestors on the basis of a recorded line of descent, or other evidence of Galloway ancestry, and  
      (b) the cattle are inspected by a Breed Inspector appointed by the Committee before registration to ensure they meet breed standards. 
       
    (2) This paragraph ceases to have effect on the first anniversary of the coming into operation of these procedures.
10.  No registrations can be transferred from one Section of the register to another. Commercial Register  

11.  The Association shall maintain a commercial register for herds and cattle of Galloway ancestry. 

Eligibility 
12.  A herd or animal is eligible for inclusion in the commercial registry if the registrar is satisfied that the herd or animal has some or all Galloway ancestry. 

Cancellation 
13. T he Registrar shall cancel a registration upon being satisfied that the animal does not meet registration requirements. stud and commercial registers 

Registration procedures  
14.  Applications for registration shall be made on a form approved by the Association, or by the Committee in accordance with any relevant resolutions of the Association.  

15.  When an animal is conceived by artificial insemination, an artificial insemination certificate shall be forwarded with the application. 

16.  When an animal is the result of an embryo transplant process, a certification by the veterinary surgeon who carried out the transplant shall be forwarded with the application. 

17.  Where an animal is the result of natural mating, when the applicant was not the owner of one or both parents of an animal at the time of conception, registration will require the written permission of the owners of the parent or parents.  

18.  (1) The Registrar may seek additional information, orally, in writing, or by way of inspections or tests, in order to clarify any issue relevant to the registration procedures. 
(2) The Registrar shall not seek information from any person or organisation other than the applicant without first advising the applicant of the intention to do so. 

19.  (1) Subject to sub-paragraph (8), each registered animal shall be identified by a unique tattoo or computer implant, or other means determined by the Association, with a stud identifier of the applicant for registration or a previous owner, a year identifier, a number for each animal, and a letter indicating the Section of the Register applicable to the animal as follows: 

      (a) Section 1 S 
      (b) Section 2 B  
      (c) Section 2 Appendix A 
      (d) Section 3 (white) W 
      (e) Section 3 (non conforming white) N
       
    (2)  The stud identifier in a tattoo shall either be in the left ear with the year identifier, animal number and Section letter in the right ear, or all of the tattoo in the left ear 
    (3)  Calves shall be tattooed before they are six months old.  
    (4)  The tattooing or other approved identification process shall be carried out by the breeder or under the breeder's supervision, unless otherwise authorised by the Committee in special circumstances when the tattooing or other identification process shall be undertaken in the presence of two witnesses authorised by the Committee. 
    (5)  An animal may be retattooed after a request from an owner following inspection by a Breed Inspector and agreement by the Registrar. 
    (6)  Tattoos made under the rules or authority of another Galloway breed organisation may be accepted by the Registrar for cattle registered under Paragraph 5. 
    (7)  The Registrar may accept unique tattoos on cattle registered under Paragraph 9.  
    (8)  For this purpose, each owner shall register a stud prefix. 
    (9)  Each registered commercial herd shall be identified by a number, and the registrar shall allocate a herd number to the owner. 
    (10)  Each registered commercial animal shall have unique identification that includes a herd number, in accordance with a system endorsed by the Committee. 
20. The Registrar, upon being satisfied that the criteria for registration have been met and that all fees required by paragraph 23 or 24 have been paid, shall register the animal or herd in the relevant Section and issue a certificate of registration to the applicant.
