1. The Herd Book shall contain particulars of the pedigree of Belted Galloway Cattle eligible to be entered therein and such other information as Council may from time to time decide. Separate Herd Books as may be decided by Council shall be maintained for White Galloway Cattle and Red Galloway Cattle respectively. The Belted Galloway Cattle Society, through the Council, shall determine from time to time the colouring, markings, conformation and qualities necessary for registration in such Herd Books and registration does not mean that the animals are pedigreed. No person who is not a member of the Belted Galloway Cattle Society.will be allowed to register cattle In any of the Society's Herd Books. 2. The three recognised colours of Belted Galloway Cattle are Black with white belt, Dun with white belt and Red with white belt. Belted animals of any other colour or colours will not be eligible for registration in the Society's Herd Book and the Council shall have the power to exclude or remove from the Herd Book any animal of doubtful colour or breeding. Belted animals shall have a complete white belt and bulls must have no white other than the belt; but a small amount of white on feet shall not disqualify a female from entry in the Herd Book. 3. The Council shall have power to Inspect or instruct inspection of Member's Herds at any time. The Council shall also have the power to exclude or remove from the Society any person or member whose conduct has been proved derogatory or prejudicial to the interests of the Breed, Soclety, Association or Club. 4. The Herd book shall consist of the Herd Book proper for bulls and females born of parents already registered and an appendix for females only. On the recommendation of the Selection Conmittee, females of correct markings and breed conformation, but from unknown or unregistered parents, may be admitted into Appendix 'A' and their correctly marked female progeny, sired by a registered Belted Galloway Bull, admitted Into Appendix 'B'. The next female generation, equally sired by a registered Belted Galloway Bull, will be eligible for the Herd Book proper. 5. For a length of time as decided by Council, correctiy marked females of the first crossbred generation, born of registered pedigree Galloway Cows, sired by a registered Belted Galloway Bull or vice versa are, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee, eligible for Appendix 'A' ; but the second crossbred generation (Appendix 'B') and their progeny (equally correctly marked) must all be sired by a registered Belted Galloway Bull. 6. The Herd Book year starts on 1st September and ends on the following 31st. August. Every animal to be registered must be entered by Its breeder or their representative by 31st. Angust following its birth. The onus of entry is on the breeder, who should apply to the Secretary for entry forms. The fee for entry shall be £10 for females and £15 for males. Entries received after 31st. 0ctober shall be charged double. All animals accepted for registration by the Society will have their official Ministry Ear Tag in their RIGHT EAR which will remain their identification throughout their life. They will addittonally be alloted an Herd Book serial number. 7. Any animal sold for export at an Official Breed Sale shall be issued with an Export Certificate by the Society, with the £10 fee being deducted by the Auctioneers on behalf of the Society. Any animal sold privately for export will be issued with an Export Certiflcate at a charge of £20, payable direct to th« Society. 8. Every person who registers an animal in the Herd Book must also register an approved Prefix, whlch shall be applicable to all other animals registered by that member. A prefix shall consist of one word only and the member shall pay a fee of £1 for the registration thereof. In addition to the prefix each animal must have a name, whlch cannot be altered after being entered in the Herd book. 9. AII bulls registered with the Society born after 1.09.98 are required to have a DNA Profile at a Centre approved by the Society. A copy of their Genotype must be lodged with the Society. Any Member wishing to send a bull to an Artificial Insemination Centre must be registered with the Soclety, whom they should notify beforehand. 10. Any member wishing to carry out Embryo Transplants should notify the Society in writing beforehand, naming the Sire and Donor Dam and requesting a Certificate. If viable embryos are produced, the completed certificate should be returned to the Society together with Blood Type Certificates of both parents and a fee of £10. The Society must be notified if the embryos are to be exported, when an additional fee of £10 becomes due. Calves got by embryo transfer and accepted for registration by the Socity, will have 'ET' inserted after their names in the Herd Book. These Bye-laws may be amended from time to time. |
